French Country Kitchens...Southern Style!

  • Custom Built French Country Kitchens

There has always been something unique about southern country kitchens. Perhaps its that they look like they just "happened," that your grandmother composed her kitchen's design over the course of a lifetime; that the warmth of her hospitality radiated from her kitchen; that you could feel biscuits baking, Sunday dinner cooking, her hand guiding yours across a faded recipe. Even in our "big" cities, Atlanta, Nashville, Birmingham, Columbia, Raleigh or Jackson, Grandmother's kitchen had the scent of spring blooms and the light of open fields, bright, breezy, comfortable.

And character, they had character. Filled with cook books, cooking art, pots and pans, tools and gadgets, bowls and measuring cups, grandmother kept abreast of popular trends and technological progress.

  • In kitchens framed with exposed beams, draped with bead board walls, you'd find ice boxes, kelvinators, wood stoves and gas ranges, biscuit boards and kitchen aids, and in time, all electric GE and Westinghouse appliances. Grey or white washed walls turned blossom colorful, windows framed our southern light, and always, always, folks gathered in the kitchen to help prepare the food we know as distinctly southern. The food of our forefathers, the staple of our culture.

  • Southern Style Country...

Southern country kitchens reflect the wedding between the traditional and modernity; the melding of function and design into a unique style that combines the agrarian heritage of our culture with our embrace of all things new. Space and sunlight merge, our palette is soft and fresh like the jonquil's late winter blooms; clay and slate are our earth tones, bright whites like lofty morning clouds and ivory shades like boiling afternoon thunder peaks dominate; and no matter how compact the space, we stretch it toward the light, toward the sun, toward the yard or field.

  • ...French Country Kitchens

Southern Country Kitchens have one more distinct trait, a certain Gallic "Joie de vivre" that pulls into our kitchens elements of our everyday life as well as remembrances of things past. We fill shelves with books and vases and framed pictures of long forgotten relatives and post cards, and our children's faces; we hang favorite images and beaten copper mixing bowls, and delft platters and church calendars on our walls. We feel the light streaming through windows and see our backyard gardens as Monet saw Giverny, and we beamingly invite all comers to watch us cook the evening's meal.

  • And We Cook...

That's really why we care at all about our kitchens. We cook, we feed, we clean. Each element has its place and its needs. A French Country Kitchen Southern Style embodies modern technologies that allow us to more efficiently accomplish all three tasks, while we enjoy doing them. It's really that simple. We work together to create a sanctuary where success is not merely measured by gastronomical achievement but by comfort and fulfillment and simply the feeling of being surrounded by all that pleases you and the knowledge that this is the center of your universe, this is "home."

Its all about you!

Our website is about Georgia Country Kitchens. Each page is filled with photographs of features we think create practical and well designed kitchens. These cabinets, appliances, counter-tops and floorings make pretty pictures but they may not make the picture of your “perfect” kitchen.

This page is about our advice for you. Simply put, we want you to know that the most talented designer we work with is you. What do you want your new kitchen to look like; what really excites you when you think of the kitchen of your dreams? How do you see yourself using your kitchen, what do you want to do in your new kitchen that you can’t do now? What special features will make your kitchen that very special kitchen you have always wanted?

One of the most important services that a kitchen company can offer you is to let you participate fully in the design of your new kitchen. You’ve probably already seen hundreds of kitchens in magazines, on-line and, of course, on HGTV. You’ve thought about what your kitchen should look like, what appliances you want, the cabinet style, countertops, everything that would make the kitchen you have built the kitchen of your dreams. Informed as you are, it’s easy to head to Lowe’s or The Home Depot or to any number of kitchen cabinet stores and pick out the closest look that meets your desires, gaze at computer designed elevations and floor plans and move things around on the computer screen until they fit your existing kitchen’s wall space and windows and light, the basic measurements of a modern kitchen’s design plan. If this is what your heart desires, quick and easy, no frills, no personalization, and no personality than we at Georgia Country Kitchens can only ask why? Is budget your concern? Are you worried you’ll be talked into something you can’t afford or don’t need? Worried about pushy designers or sales people? Or are you not really sure what you want, and not sure how to find it?

You are the reason your kitchen will be remodeled, transformed…without you there is no work for us, no sale of cabinets, countertops, appliances or accessories. Without you, our world can not spin. I give you my word that our desire is to help you design the kitchen you dream about at a price you can afford. We represent no manufacturer, no supply house; we have no showroom, no warehouse full of stock that “must be sold.” We will shop every available supplier, including big box stores like Lowe’s and the Home Depot, as well as local and national kitchen distributors and surplus stores, to find the best prices for all of your choices.

And we will make you fully aware of all options in design and cabinets, never cutting corners, never compromising on quality, always acting with your consent and approval, in your best interest.

Obviously we must work within the space you have, but more importantly, we must work with the vision of your kitchen that has been in your mind every meal you’ve cooked, through every meal you’ve served and every time you’ve cleaned your kitchen. Good design is not copying a beautiful kitchen from a web site at kitchen and bath store or design magazine; it is not listening to someone else tell you what your kitchen should look like. The best design should be your design. The task at hand of Georgia Country Kitchens is to fit you and your ideas into your space in a way that pleases you.

That may involve designing kitchens that aren’t usual, that don’t reflect the normal or regular trends of modern kitchen design; it may involve countertop heights that are measured to the height of your hips, or reflect physical limits; wall cabinets that meet your ability to reach into them, or perhaps areas that are specialized for the "ethic" or regional cooking you do. Your design may involve softer floors materials, deeper sinks, or specialized cabinets for unique cooking implements. It may involve appliances such as a stand alone refrigerator or a built in vertical deep freezer or a vented deep fat fryer built into the countertop. If you like convenience, multiple microwaves might best serve your food preparation needs. Perhaps built in gas or electric “cookout” grilling areas would be great! Kitchen exhaust fans, not just one, that protect the air in the rest of your house and allow you to cook fume free are a useful addition. And if you bake, multiple convection ovens are terrific, and many brands are very affordable. Like the look of commercial kitchens? Main stream appliance manufacturers now offer significant savings over those well-known commercial units. And how about work areas that integrate your “at home” business with your at home meal preparation areas.

Regardless of design norms, regardless of standard practice, regardless of cookie cutter “big box” kitchen designs, your kitchen should reflect your needs and wants. It should tell everyone who you are, what a great chef you are, what wonderful taste you have, how clever you are!

This is not a brief process but it is not a difficult process either. Our number one task at Georgia Country Kitchens is to determine what you want in the kitchen you have us build and make certain that the finished kitchen is built to the best design and construction practices, fully complies with all building codes and, most importantly, that it truly reflects your very good taste.
